In November 2021, SOCINTEGRA designed and installed special information stands at the Āraiši Archaeological Open-Air Museum. These stands combine visual and tactile information, allowing people with visual impairments to fully experience the museum’s territory and landscapes.
The project began in early autumn when SOCINTEGRA
organized an excursion to Āraiši for people with visual impairments. Over three
hours, museum staff introduced visitors to the exhibits, led creative
workshops, and allowed participants to explore ancient artifacts by touch,
enjoy the scent of medicinal herbs, and even make butter using traditional
tools.
In the second stage of the project, SOCINTEGRA
developed a universal design model for the museum’s information stands,
ensuring they are convenient and inclusive for all visitors. Tactile maps help
people with visual impairments navigate the museum grounds, while relief images
allow them to experience the unique landscape of the Āraiši lake fortress.
